BIOGRAPHY

Dave Davidson has firmly established himself as one of the leading artists at the forefront of extreme music. After graduating cum laude from Berklee in 2008, Davidson went on to become one of the most highly acclaimed metal guitarists of his generation. He is the lead singer and guitarist of Revocation and has earned recognition amongst fans and critics for his unique approach of blending metal, fusion, rock and jazz into complex, progressive metal compositions.

From the onset of Davidson’s career music journalists began to take notice of his virtuosic chops and unique compositions. Spin Magazine named Revocation one of their top 10 artists to watch in 2010 after the release of their Relapse Records debut album Existence Is Futile. Spin went on to write that the band’s “simultaneously brawny and brainy sound has led to burgeoning guitar-hero status for David Davidson.” The following year MetalSucks.net named him the #1 guitarist in modern metal, this accolade brought Davidson worldwide recognition in the metal community as he and his bandmates embarked on countless tours across the globe.

After releasing 3 full length albums and an EP on Relapse, Revocation went on to sign a new deal with Metal Blade Records in the summer of 2014. After touring extensively to support their critically acclaimed Metal Blade debut Deathless, they immediately went back into the studio and delivered its successor Great Is Our Sin in 2016 which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top New Artist charts. During this time Davidson branched out not only as a performer and songwriter, but as an educator as well.

In 2018 Guitar World named him one of the world’s 15 greatest 7 string guitarists. In addition to teaching private lessons in his downtime from tour he also began teaching clinics at colleges in the US including at his alma mater, Berklee College of Music.

Over the years Davidson has continued to redefine himself, collaborating and performing with some of the biggest names in the metal genre such as Marty Friedman, who invited Davidson to be a guest songwriter for a track on his solo album Inferno. Friedman went on to describe Davidson as “an awesome guitarist and songwriter” and proclaimed “He is carrying the flag of metal” Davidson has also shared the stage with other notable metal and rock legends like Dave Lombardo, Mike Portnoy, Alex Skolnick, Jeff Loomis and Troy Sanders of Mastodon just to name a few. His latest musical project Gargoyl is yet another step in his continued musical evolution. Their self titled debut is expected to be released in the fall of 2020 through avant-garde record label Season Of Mist.
